Intel Core i7-14700HX Raptor Lake-HX makes a surpise appearance in new benchmark

The desktop Raptor Lake CPUs from Intel aren’t the only ones getting a makeover. According to a new Core i7-14700HX benchmark leak, the mobile models will receive the similar treatment. Intel debuted the mobile Raptor Lake portfolio, which includes the HX, H, P, and U series, in January, so an upgrade so soon seems premature.

Since the chipmaker is awarding desktop Raptor Lake components, it stands to reason that it would also promote mobile components. Surprisingly, there haven’t been many leaks about mobile Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs, so it’s unclear when Intel will release the new chips.

The Core i7-14700HX is part of the Raptor Lake-HX series designed for gaming laptops and mobile workstations

The model name alone indicates that the Core i7-14700HX is the exact replacement for the present Core i7-13700HX. The Core i7-14700HX PugetBench entry, discovered by hardware leaker momomo_us, does not provide the details of the unreleased Raptor Lake-HX processor.

Raptor Lake Refresh added 50% more E-cores to Core i7 SKUs. As a result, products like the Core i7-14700K have an 8P + 12E configuration as opposed to the 8P + 8E design of the Core i7-13700K. Assuming Intel maintains the same method on mobile parts, we could see a similar upgrade on the Core i7-14700HX. A 50% increase in E-cores would bring the Core i7-14700HX’s layout up to 8P + 12E instead of the 8P + 8E design of the Core i7-13700HX. That’s all we can say for the time being because we haven’t seen any leaks of the clock speed increase to anticipate the performance rise.

The Core i7-14700HX sample, together with the Arc A570M, was tested on a Raptor Lake test platform. Unfortunately, because it is substantially lower than the Core i7-13700HX submission, the score is worthless for comparison. The i7-14700HX received 847 points, while the Core i7-13700HX received 1,291 points. In any case, the recent Core i7-14700HX sighting indicates that Intel is working on or nearing completion of the Raptor Lake-HX upgrade.
