The Snapdragon X Elite is reported to be the official name of Qualcomm’s high-end chipset designed just for PCs, as well as the company’s first to use its own Oryon cores designed to compete with Apple’s M-series. A complete list of its specifications has been made public, including a CPU and GPU that are said to be twice as fast as x86 processors.

Three ‘Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3’ variants are being developed by Qualcomm, with the top-end model being designated for high-end notebooks and including a 12-core CPU. In a thorough study, it was said that the Snapdragon X Elite would be powered by eight performance cores and four efficiency ones. However, according to WindowsReport on X, all 12 cores are high-performance ones, with no mention of power-efficiency ones.

Snapdragon X Elite is rumored to have LPDDR5X RAM with up to 136GB/s memory bandwidth

The undisclosed Adreno GPU is believed to reach a computing threshold of 4.6 TFLOPS while also supporting up to a triple 4K display arrangement, while the NPU, or Neural Processing Unit, will supposedly have a computing speed of 45 TOPS. A Thunderbolt 4 connection will probably enable this triple-monitor functionality.

While Wi-Fi 7 is reportedly one benefit of upgrading to a notebook with a Snapdragon X Elite, it is also reportedly equipped with a 5G modem, which Apple’s M-series portable Macs are alleged to be missing. The list of specifications, however, makes no indication of whether the 5G modem would be installed as a separate card in a slot that may be upgraded in the future or whether it will be soldered to the motherboard.

The Snapdragon X Elite features a CPU and GPU combo that is twice as fast as x86 CPUs, which is an intriguing piece of information we discovered from the leak. This assertion is somewhat ambiguous, as there are other x86 processors available, while WindowsReport speculates that Qualcomm may be talking to Intel’s Raptor Lake 28W CPU with 96EU units, which tops out at 2.3TFLOPS. Regardless of these claims, we’ll have to wait for real-world benchmarks to get a clear image of the Snapdragon X Elite’s capabilities.
