MediaTek has displayed its new 5G enabled chipset, Dimensity 1000C 5G in the US. It will be the first one equipped in a MediTek powered 5G smartphone in that counter. Besides that, it will be on-board in the LG Velvet on T-Mobile’s network.
Ryan Sullivan, the VP of Product Development at T-Mobile said, “From the world’s first standalone 5G data call to collaborating on their first 5G chipset in America, T-Mobile and MediaTek have partnered to move 5G innovation forward,”
The new Dimensity series member is built on a 7nm process. There are four ARM Cortex-A77 cores clocked at 2GHz and four ARM Cortex-A55 high-efficiency cores of 2GHz. Along with these, for the graphics part ARM Mali-G57 MC5 GPU is added.
The Dimensity 1000C is very much capable of handling cameras of up to 64MP for a single-camera setup or a dual-camera setup of 32MP+16MP. The devices equipped with this SoC will be able to capture videos of up to 4K resolution with the addition of features like video bokeh, EIS, and so on. In the case of connectivity, Dimensity 1000C supports 5G SA/NSA network, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.1.
This is the first MediaTek chip that comes with dual display support on a smartphone along with dual voice wake-up. In addition, it can provide AV1 HDR for Netflix, and AV1 codecs for YouTube. The chipmaker is also working with Twitch to provide the consumers AV1 streaming facility through smartphones.
Dr. Yenchi Lee, the Deputy General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit said, “Compared to other parts of the world, consumers in the U.S. haven’t had much choice on the chipset side when it comes to 5G smartphones,” He also added, “MediaTek is focused on giving consumers more options and expanding access to 5G devices so that everyone can enjoy the premium features and speeds that are defining the next era of mobile computing.”
