Casemiro forced off with ankle injury in fresh selection blow to Manchester United

In another blow to Manchester United’s squad, Casemiro has suffered an injury while on international duty with Brazil. The 31-year-old asked to be substituted after suffering a blow to his ankle in the World Cup qualifier against Venezuela, confirmed head coach Fernando Diniz after the game.

The midfielder did not train with the national team on October 14 either, choosing to stay at the hotel and undergo physiotherapy and recovery instead. Casemiro will probably not be available for Brazil’s upcoming game against Uruguay, with the full extent of the injury yet to be officially confirmed.

Erik Ten Hag has been forced to field a starting eleven without the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Lisandro Martinez, Amad Diallo, Tyrell Malacia, and Luke Shaw in recent weeks. All these players have been sidelined with injuries, while Raphael Varane and Sergio Reguilon only recently gained full fitness again.

The Dutchman was also forced to sideline Antony due to his domestic abuse case, and continues to avoid picking Jadon Sancho after their public row. As a result, the team’s on-pitch performances have suffered leaving them 10th in the Premier League table with 12 points, only one above Chelsea.

United will be keeping tabs on Casemiro’s injury, given that he is unlikely to feature in Brazil’s match against Uruguay. He could also miss the club’s Premier League game against Sheffield United after the international break, adding to their selection problems.
