Two new PlayStation 5 system models have been formally unveiled by Sony. Long-running rumors claimed that Sony was getting ready to unveil new PlayStation 5 consoles with smaller designs. Additional speculations said that Sony might introduce a removable disc drive, giving owners of PS5 Digital Editions the option to modify their devices so they can play discs.
Since they initially surfaced, rumors and leaks concerning the new PlayStation 5 console models have persisted, and they have finally been confirmed to be true. The new PlayStation 5 console models are thinner than their equivalents that are currently on the market, with weight and volume reductions of 18% and 24%, respectively. It has also been announced that the speculated PS5 removable disc drive will be available later for $79.99.
The price of the consoles itself will increase by $50 from the current model to $499.99 for the PS5 with the disc drive and $499.99 for the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition.
Once the existing supply of original PS5s is exhausted, buyers will only have access to the new devices, which will be released in November. For $29.99, customers can also choose to buy a Vertical Stand.
Except for the detachable disc drive that will be made available for the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, these new PS5 console models are identical to those that are currently on the market in terms of functionality. Although reports claim that a PS5 Pro is also in development, this isn’t a mid-gen upgrade. Given this, some customers might decide to hold off on purchasing one of these new PS5 models to see if the rumors of a PS5 Pro console are accurate.
The release of the new PS5 models is advantageous for the PlayStation brand. The major Spider-Man 2 PS5 exclusive game, which Sony is about to release, will undoubtedly be a system-seller this Christmas season. Although some customers might choose the Spider-Man 2 PS5 package, others might prefer the thinner PS5 consoles and choose to buy those along with a separate copy of Spider-Man 2.
