Luka Modric has been linked with a move to Inter Miami at the end of the season, once his contract with Real Madrid expires. The playmaker signed a one-year extension at the end of last season, even though he knew that he wouldn’t have a lot of playing time.
David Beckham and Lionel Messi are keen on signing the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner, with the Argentine reportedly keen on playing alongside Modric. However, nothing has been agreed between the two parties as of yet.
Inter Miami to try and sign Luka Modric from Real Madrid
The Croatian had a huge proposal from Saudi Arabia as well this summer, but turned it down in favour of a stay at Real Madrid. He prioritised the sporting aspect of his career over the financial, even while knowing that he would not play as much as he had before.
Modric has still shown on multiple occasions that he has what it takes to compete at the standards that Madrid demands. But, with the addition of Jude Bellingham and the presence of Fede Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga, we could be witnessing the final chapter of his career.
It is important to remember that Luka Modric has repeatedly mentioned his desire to retire at Real Madrid. And if he isn’t offered a new deal at the end of the campaign, he could finally hang up his boots at the age of 38.
But as we saw with Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos, we can never say never in football.
