Kolkata-based Mohammedan Sporting Club will receive investment from Dubai-based firm LuLu, after they held talks with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the club. The two parties held a meeting in Kolkata regarding not only the club, but also the building of a shopping mall in the Newtown area of the city.
The aim is for the third big club from the city to join East Bengal and Mohun Bagan SG in the ISL from the 2024/25 season. However, they will have to win the I-League, which is now the second tier of football in the country and is the gateway for clubs to move to the ISL.

Although the talks have been held between the West Bengal Chief Minister and the LuLu Group’s Ashraf Ali, the final details of the investment will need to be discussed with the club itself. The Chief Minister reportedly explained the history of the club to Ali, with their domination of football alongside East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.
But, Mohammedan Sporting Club were left behind when both rivals moved to the ISL. Now, they have the chance to make significant improvements and challenge the other clubs in the division for a spot in the top flight.
Banerjee donated a sum worth Rs 60 lakh to the club a few months ago for them to renovate their stadium and improve their gallery. After her trip to Spain which saw a deal struck with LaLiga for the development of young footballers in the city, improvements are now being made to the third big club from the country’s football capital.
