Demarai Gray signs for Al Ettifaq in $10 million deal from Everton

Demarai Gray has completed a $10 million transfer to Saudi Arabian side Al Ettifaq, having signed a four-year deal with the club. He spent two years with Everton and has now moved on to the next chapter of his career, joining the Saudi club on deadline day.

In 67 appearances for the Toffees, he scored nine goals, but was unable to live up to the potential he once showed with Leicester City. The Jamaican becomes the latest addition to Al Ettifaq’s squad, managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

The Jamaican fell out with Everton manager Sean Dyche ahead of his transfer, with Turkish side Besiktas also interested in signing him.

“The truth is I gave my all to this club on and off the pitch.”

“There has been a lot of speculation about my situation all summer. I was ready to play as much football as possible this season but it felt like this was not going to happen,” the forward said about leaving Everton.

Al Ettifaq have also signed former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, Jack Hendry and Moussa Dembele to bolster their squad.

Demarai Gray secured a permanent transfer to Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021, but returned to England to join Everton only six months later. He has since been with the Toffees, but never quite matched his Leicester days. He is now part of a massive exodus to the Middle East from the top tiers of European football.
