Reliance Jio is getting ready to launch a novel wireless internet solution called Jio AirFiber, aimed at homes and offices. During this year’s Annual General Meeting held today, Mukesh Ambani, the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries, unveiled the plan to introduce Jio AirFiber in India on September 19th, 2023. This launch date coincides with the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
The All New Jio AirFiber
The introduction of AirFiber 5G was initially announced during the company’s 45th AGM the previous year. Jio highlighted that the AirFiber service will provide wireless internet speeds comparable to those of fiber-optic connections, enabling users to engage in various activities like video streaming, gaming, and video conferencing with minimal delays and ample bandwidth. The service incorporates features like parental controls, support for Wi-Fi 6, and more.
Jio AirFiber, a new wireless internet service powered by 5G technology, will grant high-speed internet access. Jio claims that AirFiber will deliver speeds similar to traditional fiber-optic connections, with the capability to reach speeds of up to 1Gbps.
Regarding the setup process, the official Jio website explains that configuring Jio AirFiber is as simple as plugging it in and turning it on. It’s a matter of “plug and play” to set up a personal Wi-Fi hotspot at home, connected to ultra-high-speed True 5G internet. This makes connecting your residence or workplace to Gigabit-speed internet incredibly straightforward.
The Jio AirFiber device was introduced in an advertisement last year, showcasing 5G speeds reaching 1.5 Gbps. Jio asserts that AirFiber employs authentic 5G technology to provide swift, dependable, and extensive Wi-Fi coverage. Thanks to its distinct spectrum holdings, the service can cover up to 1,000 square feet on the same floor of a building. Beyond delivering fast internet speeds, Jio AirFiber will offer additional features to ensure a secure internet experience.
Jio AirFiber offers a range of valuable features. Parental Controls ensure secure content access, while Wi-Fi 6 Support optimizes device connectivity. Integration with the Jio Set-Top Box merges high-speed internet and TV viewing. The app streamlines setup and network management. Network Control enhances security by allowing website and device blocking. Jio AirFiber is expected to be competitively priced, around 20% lower than similar devices available in the market. Reports suggest a potential cost of approximately ₹6,000, according to ET Telecom.
