Barcelona have reached an agreement with Manchester City for the signing of Joao Cancelo. The player will be joining on an initial loan deal with the option to make it permanent later on. The documents are being signed between the two clubs and the move will soon be complete with the Portuguese finally getting the transfer that he wanted.
On the other hand, Barca will finally have a world class starting right-back after many years. The Portugal international spent the latter half of last season with Bayern Munich, but the Bundesliga winners decided not to make his move permanent.
Joao Cancelo to sign for Barcelona on loan with buy option
The amount that City will receive as a loan fee or as part of the buy option has not been revealed yet. But, it will be a sizable amount since his permanent transfer clause was priced at €70 million for this summer.
Joao Cancelo fell out with Pep Guardiola during the January transfer window, which caused him to be transferred immediately. He is not a part of City’s plans in the future and as a result, has been offloaded once again.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed that Cancelo will be signed this week. But, he will not be the last player to be signed this summer. There could be a surprise new addition in the final few days of the window, and it now remains to be seen who could join the defender.
