MSI has leaked Intel’s 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh Desktop CPU range, confirming all we’ve known about the family up to this point. The Intel 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh Desktop CPUs are no longer unknown, as we have previously covered the specifications and performance in various leaks, but this is more of an official confirmation that gives us an insight into how motherboard vendors see the next-gen lineup and what they will primarily market and focus on when the new chips hit the retail shelves.
MSI highlights some of the important aspects of the 14th Generation Raptor Lake Refresh range, which includes no architectural changes but the inclusion of higher speeds, greater power limitations, and a whole new Core i7 SKU with additional cores, threads, and cache. This combination will be an upgrade over the current 13th Gen 8+8 Core i7 SKU, and it will have the largest CPU performance boost in the range, averaging roughly 17% in multi-threaded apps.
Because they are just receiving higher clocks while keeping the same core configurations, the remainder of the Raptor Lake Refresh lineup will be less performant.
MSI claims a 3% performance gain over the rest of the 14th Gen CPU family. Aside from that, consumers may expect quicker memory support as well as new motherboard options that provide Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 capabilities.
It should also be noted that MSI and other manufacturers have enabled 14th-generation CPU compatibility on their 600-series and 700-series motherboards via BIOS upgrades, thus purchasing a new chip and running it on your existing LGA 1700 motherboard is totally doable.
