Xiaomi has unveiled its third-generation foldable smartphone in China. Officially named the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3, this device is the fourth horizontal foldable phone in Xiaomi’s lineup, transforming from a folded state into a tablet.
At present, it claims the distinction of being the slimmest foldable smartphone globally in its folded state, exceeding the previous holder of this record, the Honor Magic V2. Like the brand’s conventional flagship smartphones, the Mix Fold 3 features a camera system tuned by Leica. This new foldable phone also introduces an updated hinge and a refreshed design.
Specifications and Pricing of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3
The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 maintains the square look of its predecessor, the Mix Fold 2, with certain alterations. The rectangular camera module has expanded to accommodate four lenses instead of three. When unfolded, the device measures an incredibly thin 5.26mm, and when folded, it is 10.96mm thick. A novel waterdrop hinge has been incorporated, designed to be more durable than its precursor and capable of enduring over 500,000 folds. Moreover, this hinge allows the screen to remain steady (in Hover mode) at angles between 45° and 135°.
The primary foldable display is an 8.03-inch panel with a 2K resolution and UTG protection. The external 21:9 FHD+ display, shielded by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, measures 6.56 inches diagonally. Both screens employ E6 material and support a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, as well as Dolby Vision. They can reach an impressive peak brightness of 2600 nits, with a global brightness level rated at 1300 nits.
Dual stereo speakers accompany these two screens. On the software front, the device runs MIUI 14 Fold based on Android 13, and Xiaomi asserts that the top 200 apps in China have been fully optimized for this smartphone. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by an overclocked version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, coupled with LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. A 4,800mAh battery supports the device, offering 67W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
Importantly, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 boasts a Leica-tuned quad-camera system and dual 20MP front-facing cameras for both external and internal displays. The primary camera setup comprises a 50MP Sony IMX800 main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, a 10MP 3.2x telephoto shooter, and a 10MP 5x periscope lens. All except the ultra-wide camera feature optical image stabilization (OIS).
The pricing structure for the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 in China comprises the following options: The variant with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage is priced at ¥8,999 (approximately $1,240), while the model with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage comes in at ¥9,999 (about $1,375). For those seeking even more storage, the 16GB of RAM and 1TB storage configuration is available for ¥10,999 (around $1,515).
This smartphone is presented in two versions – one with a glass build and another with a dragon-scale fiber design. The glass iteration can be selected in black or gold. On the other hand, the dragon scale fiber variant is constructed using aerospace fiber composite material, boasting a strength 36 times greater than glass. Interestingly, both versions are priced identically. Currently open for pre-orders in China, the foldable smartphone is set to become available for purchase starting from August 16.
