Arsenal have won the 2023 Community Shield by defeating Manchester City 4-1 on penalties after a dramatic comeback in the final minutes of open play at the Wembley Stadium. Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri missed their penalties which allowed the Gunners to win the game, after the 90 minutes ended 1-1.

The opening goal was scored by Cole Palmer in the second half, after the youngster produced a remarkable finish to beat Aaron Ramsdale. Kevin De Bruyne played a key part in the goal, heading the ball back into Palmer as he produced a curling finish.

The first half saw both teams produce a cagey affair, with almost no clear cut chances for the treble winners. Arsenal had the best chance of the opening 45 minutes when Kai Havertz was found in the centre from the right wing. However, he was unable to beat Stefan Ortega Moreno, who produced a remarkable stop to keep it 0-0.

The Manchester City goalkeeper made another important save by denying Havertz. On the other hand, Ramsdale was barely tested in the first half which saw City enjoy most of possession. But, they were unable to do much with it.

Arsenal were unable to claim as much control over the game in the second half. But, a last-gasp effort from Leandro Trossard took a massive deflection and caught Stefan Ortega wrong footed, sending the two clubs into penalties. Fabio Vieira scored the winning penalty for Arsenal as they lifted the Community Shield for the 17th time.
