Indian Football Team captain, Sunil Chhetri, has been riding a wave of triumphs as the Blue Tigers have soared to incredible heights in 2023. Leading his team to three consecutive trophies – the Tri Nations, the Intercontinental Cup, and the SAFF Cup – Chhetri’s skill and leadership have made him the talk of the town. However, amidst this epic momentum, the captain has made an emotional request to coach Igor Stimac, seeking exemption from traveling to the prestigious King’s Cup in Thailand.

At the heart of Chhetri’s request lies a deeply personal reason – the imminent arrival of a new member in his family. The skipper’s wife, Sonam Chhetri, is expecting their first child, and the delivery due date coincides closely with the King’s Cup tournament, scheduled from September 7 to September 10. The news of his wife’s pregnancy was joyously announced by Chhetri in a spectacular manner during a match against Vanuatu. Scoring the winning goal, he lovingly tucked the ball under his jersey in an ode to his wife, a celebration that resonated with fans worldwide.

” I would request the coach not to include me in the King’s Cup squad.” Sunil Chhetri said. ” I am really looking forward to being a father. I would like to stay back as the date is very close to the delivery date,” he added.
