SemiconIndia 2023: Uniting India’s Semiconductor Manufacturing Capability

SemiconIndia 2023, a prestigious six-day exhibition held at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India, from July 25th to July 30th, showcased India’s growing semiconductor manufacturing prowess. The event witnessed a collaborative effort between the Electronic Industries Association of India (ELCINA) and SEMI, a global industry association that unites the electronics manufacturing and design supply chain. This joint participation aimed to revolutionize the user experience and highlight India’s vast potential in the semiconductor ecosystem. The event, featuring exclusive days for both students and the business community, brought together industry leaders, ELCINA members, and esteemed organizations to foster collaboration, innovation, and skill development.

ELCINA SEMI Pavilion: A Gathering of Industry Leaders

The ELCINA SEMI pavilion was a testament to India’s strides in the semiconductor domain, welcoming an illustrious gathering of industry leaders. Esteemed ELCINA members such as Semiconductor Laboratory, Sahasra Semiconductors, Applied Materials India, and others exhibited their technological capabilities. This showcase emphasized India’s pivotal role in the global supply chain, with local companies contributing significantly to the semiconductor ecosystem.

Driving Innovation through Strategic Collaborations

ELCINA’s dedicated efforts in the semiconductor domain have resulted in significant collaborations with prestigious organizations and academic institutions. Partnerships with SEMI USA and government laboratories like GATEC, SCL, and SSPL, along with academic institutions such as IIT, IISC, and Manav Rachna University, aim to drive innovation, research, and skills development in the semiconductor industry. These collaborations foster talent development, upskilling, and strengthen the semiconductor supply chain ecosystem in India.

Semiconductor Special Group: Addressing Industry Challenges

The Semiconductor Special Group, a strategic initiative by ELCINA, played a vital role in SemiconIndia 2023. This group comprises two essential wings—the Workforce Development SIG and the Supply Chain SIG. The Workforce Development SIG focuses on bridging the skills gap in the semiconductor industry through talent development and upskilling initiatives. On the other hand, the Supply Chain SIG aims to enhance the semiconductor supply chain ecosystem in India, facilitating networking and collaboration among supply chain players through the ELCINA B2B portal.

Empowering India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem

Shri. Ajit Manocha, the President & CEO of SEMI, emphasized the active role SEMI plays in collaboration with ELCINA to make India a preferred destination in the semiconductor industry. This collaboration reflects the shared vision of both organizations to promote and strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem. SemiconIndia 2023 provided an excellent platform for ELCINA and its members to demonstrate their technological capabilities and contribute to the growth of the Indian semiconductor industry.

ELCINA’s Seminars and Knowledge-Sharing Sessions

Beyond the exhibition, ELCINA actively engaged in seminars and knowledge-sharing sessions during the event. These sessions offered valuable insights and perspectives on industry trends, challenges, and opportunities, providing a platform for interactions among attendees, industry stakeholders, and policymakers.

Welcoming Meity’s Initiative and Government Support

ELCINA wholeheartedly welcomed the SemiconIndia 2023 event and the Meity initiative aimed at promoting chip manufacturing in India. The Union government’s allocation of a $10 billion dedicated fund through the incentive scheme showcased a strong commitment to attract investments and enhance the country’s domestic chip manufacturing capabilities.

ELCINA, Driving India’s Electronics and IT Hardware Development

Established in 1967, ELCINA has played a crucial role in supporting India’s electronics hardware industry since its infancy. Over the years, ELCINA has broadened its activities to encompass the development of entire electronics and IT hardware. The association focuses on promoting the manufacture of electronic components, industrial/professional electronics, defense/strategic electronics, electronic manufacturing services, and other expanding areas in electronics.

SEMI, Advancing Electronics Design and Manufacturing

SEMI connects over 2,500 member companies and 1.3 million professionals worldwide to advance the technology and business of electronics design and manufacturing. SEMI members contribute innovations in materials, design, equipment, software, devices, and services that enable smarter, faster, more powerful, and affordable electronic products.

SemiconIndia 2023 served as a dynamic platform that highlighted India’s growing semiconductor manufacturing capability. The collaborative efforts between ELCINA and SEMI, along with the involvement of industry leaders and esteemed organizations, fostered innovation, skills development, and networking within the semiconductor community. With the support of the government and the semiconductor industry’s dedication, India’s semiconductor ecosystem is poised for continuous growth and success on the world electronics map.
