OTT apps which have banned password sharing: Disney+Hotstar also stops password sharing

OTT apps which have banned password sharing: In order to combat password sharing, Disney+Hotstar, India’s top streaming provider, will make several policy modifications. The OTT platform is currently doing internal testing in order to enforce this new regulation. According to sources, device logins with a single password could be limited to four for premium users under the proposed changes, which are anticipated to go into place later this year.

While Disney+Hotstar officially allows premium customers to connect in from up to four different devices, individuals were able to check in from up to ten different devices per account without restriction. So yet, the OTT platform has not cracked down on gadget sharing. However, in order to increase average revenue per user (ARPU), Disney+Hotstar will crack down on password sharing. The password-sharing limits will apply not only to premium users, but also to lower-tier plans that limit the number of devices per account to two.

The decision to limit device logins demonstrates how streaming services are under increasing pressure to protect their revenue. Netflix has implemented a new policy in over 100 countries, including India, that prohibits users from exchanging passwords with others outside their household. The streaming platform saw immediate benefits as the number of individuals signing up increased significantly.
