Vinicius and Rodrygo: Real Madrid’s new No. 7 and No.11, taking on the mantle from Cristiano Ronaldo and Paco Gento

Vinicius and Rodrygo, the dynamic duo both on and off the field, joined Real Madrid in 2018 and 2019 respectively. With notable attackers like Karim Benzema, Marco Asensio, and Eden Hazard absent, they are now prepared to step up and embrace their new roles. This transition is evident as Vinicius proudly wears the iconic ‘7’ jersey while Rodrygo dons the historic ’11’ for Los Blancos. Their journey holds immense promise as they seek to leave their mark on the club’s storied history.

Vinicius Jr – Real Madrid’s new No. 7

Vinicius said: “I’m very grateful to wear this jersey that many other great players have worn. I am inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo because I’ve watched all of his games and he marked an era at the club. He’s an idol for me.”

Rodrygo – Real Madrid’s new No. 11

Rodrygo said: “It means a lot to me. It’s a number that I’ve liked since I was a child. [Paco Gento] He won six Champions Leagues and it would be an honour to be able to stay close to that achievement.”

When choosing the numbers associated with Madrid, numerous footballers who have previously donned them come to their minds. However, amidst this group, there is always one exceptional player who stands out, serving as a role model and frame of reference for Vinicius and Rodrygo.

Vinicius said about Rodrygo: “The best thing about Rodrygo is how he understands the game, his quality and what he does on the field,” Rodrygo added about his Brazilian counterpart: “The best thing about Vini is that he always goes one on one, wherever it is.”

Vinicius-Rodrygo duo, for Vinicius it is “incredible”, while Rodrygo defines it as “a complete duo”.
