Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement with their rivals Bayern Munich for the transfer of Marcel Sabitzer. The midfielder is out of the project, having spent the second half of 22/23 on loan at Manchester United. And now, he will become the latest player to cross the Bayern-Dortmund divide.
Raphael Guerreiro was the last player to have moved between the rivals, having signed for Bayern as a free agent. Now, Sabitzer will be moving to the black and yellow club after agreeing personal terms over a move.
Borussia Dortmund to sign Marcel Sabitzer on permanent transfer
The deal has been fully agreed between Sabitzer and Dortmund, and will be signed later this week should everything go as planned. The Bavarians will receive a fee worth €19 million plus add-ons for the midfielder.
He was signed from RB Leipzig and was expected to fit in well, especially with former Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann in charge. But, he has been unable to consistently play with the presence of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka in the team.
During his loan spell at Manchester United, he made 18 appearances, scoring three goals and providing one assist. He also helped the team end their trophy drought by helping them win the EFL Cup. United decided against bringing him back permanently since they signed Mason Mount, and Marcel Sabitzer will now be playing for Dortmund from the coming season.
