Wimbledon 2023 final results: Carlos Alcaraz has won his maiden Wimbledon Championship, defeating reigning champion Novak Djokovic 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 6-3, 6-4. The match went on to a fifth set, after Djokovic came back from 2-1 down to win the fourth set.
The Centre Court showcased an intense battle between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz with the Wimbledon Championship on the line. Both players gave it more than their 100% and showed exactly what was at stake, with the two best players in the sport right now pitted against each other in one of the best tournaments in history.
The grass court saw both players push themselves physically, with Novak Djokovic’s streak establishing him as the favourite heading into the Gentleman’s finals.

The Serb had a dream start by defeating his debutant opponent 6-1 in the opening set before a lengthy second set went to Alcaraz after a tie-breaker. In the process, Djokovic’s run of 15 straight tie breakers was broken as the Wimbledon crowd kept booing him.
The youngster broke Djokovic twice in the third set, and produced a valiant display to claim a break in the fifth game after 13 deuces. He also claimed a seventh break-point opportunity, and earned a 2-1 lead in the final before Djokovic’s 6-3 return in the fourth set.
The frustration got the better of the 23-time champion, as he smashed his racket against the net post after going down 2-1 in the fifth set. And eventually, he won 6-4 to win his second Grand Slam at 20 years old, and end Novak Djokovic’s reign.
The last person to defeat Novak Djokovic in the Centre Court was Andy Murray a decade ago. And now, we may finally be entering a change of guard with Alcaraz overcoming the veteran.
