The Serb had a dream start by defeating his debutant opponent 6-1 in the opening set before a lengthy second set went to Alcaraz after a tie-breaker. In the process, Djokovic’s run of 15 straight tie breakers was broken as the Wimbledon crowd kept booing him.

The youngster broke Djokovic twice in the third set, and produced a valiant display to claim a break in the fifth game after 13 deuces. He also claimed a seventh break-point opportunity, and earned a 2-1 lead in the final before Djokovic’s 6-3 return in the fourth set.

The frustration got the better of the 23-time champion, as he smashed his racket against the net post after going down 2-1 in the fifth set. And eventually, he won 6-4 to win his second Grand Slam at 20 years old, and end Novak Djokovic’s reign.

The last person to defeat Novak Djokovic in the Centre Court was Andy Murray a decade ago. And now, we may finally be entering a change of guard with Alcaraz overcoming the veteran.
