Ajax confirm Dusan Tadic departure after 4 years amidst frustrations over squad quality

Ajax captain Dusan Tadic has decided to terminate his contract a year early and leave the club with immediate effect. His departure has been officially confirmed by the club on their website, in a formal statement.

The Serbian made 241 appearances for the Dutch club, scoring 105 times and helping them immensely during their memorable 2018/19 Champions League semifinal run. Now, he has decided to take up a new challenge and has ended his four-year spell.

“The decision to leave the club has been a very hard one to make. However, I believe this is the right moment. I think it’s right for not only me but also the club to make a new start. The time I have had at Ajax and the successes we have celebrated give me an indescribable feeling that I have never experienced in my career before. I would like to thank all the fans for the wonderful time I have had here. If it’s up to me, this is not a final goodbye. I will forever be an Ajax player and hope to return to Amsterdam soon, in a different role as coach,” the player told Ajax’s official website.

This past season, the club finished third in the Eredivisie and failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in over a decade. And with growing concerns over their transfer strategy and the condition of the squad, Dusan Tadic has decided to leave and pursue a new challenge.

Manchester United have almost immediately been linked, which would see the player reunite with former Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag. But, no formal offer has been made to him as of yet.
