Juventus captain Leonardo Bonucci has been informed that he is no longer part of the club’s project. With the arrival of new sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli from Napoli, the squad is expected to undergo a shuffle and the centre-back is expected to make way, being made available on the market with immediate effect.

The Italian commented that he would be retiring at the end of his contract with Juventus in 2024. However, it now appears that the club will not wait one more year for him to see out his deal. They want him to make way immediately, and are open to proposals from other clubs.

The defender formed an iconic partnership with fellow Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini, who left the club last summer to move to the MLS. Now, it seems that the time has arrived for the end of an era in Turin with Bonucci no longer a part of the club’s plans.

The 36-year-old has made 502 appearances for Juventus across a spell at Milan where he made 51 appearances for the Rossoneri. He has won the Scudetto eight consecutive times with Juventus, and has also won the Coppa Italia on four occasions, while winning the Supercoppa Italia on five.

There are rumours linking him with a move to Sampdoria in Serie B for his final season as a professional. However, links to Saudi Arabia have also emerged, but the player’s final decision is uncertain as of yet.
