Gianluigi Buffon has been offered a massive £25 million per year contract to join the Saudi Pro League. The goalkeeper currently captains his boyhood club Parma in the second division. In spite of being 45 years of age, he has been able to stay somewhat consistent in his appearances, playing 17 games this past season as his side qualified for the Serie B playoffs.
The 2006 World Cup winner has one year left on his deal with Parma. He could choose to have a massive payday in the Gulf State or see out the rest of his contract with his boyhood club before possibly hanging up his boots.
Gianluigi Buffon offered massive contract by Saudi Arabia
The veteran goalkeeper has been in Italy for almost the entirety of his career, save for a brief stint with PSG. However, he returned to Juventus shortly after and has been with Parma since leaving the Bianconeri.
Now, there is an opportunity for him to become only the second ever Italian player to feature in the Saudi Pro League. Sebastian Giovinco is the first Italian to have ever featured in the Saudi league, having played for Al Hilal between 2019 and 2021, making 57 appearances.
Buffon has managed to keep himself very fit for his age, and he could earn a record for being the oldest player in Serie A should he continue next season. The Saudi club that made the offer to Gianluigi Buffon is as of yet unidentified.
Several top players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy have already signed for Saudi Arabian clubs. And if they can reach an agreement with Buffon, he could be next on the list.
