Luis Enrique PSG manager news: PSG have reached a full agreement with Luis Enrique over the vacant managerial position. The former Barcelona and Spain head coach has been without a job since after the 2022 World Cup, and has been considered by several other clubs including Chelsea, Tottenham and Napoli.
However, he hasn’t been able to reach an agreement with any of them. Now, he has accepted the offer made by PSG, and it is set to be made official this week once they have officially parted ways with their former head coach.
Enrique will be replacing Christophe Galtier, who has only spent one season in charge of the Parisians. The former Lille manager was able to guide them to the Ligue 1 title by only one point, but was knocked out of the Coupe de France and the Champions League at the Round of 16 stage.
As a result, the board does not see him as the right option to lead the club for the coming season even though he has publicly stated that he deserves another year.
Luis Enrique PSG news: Total agreement close to being reached
Talks are now ongoing between Enrique and PSG over the staff that he will have at the club. The club is carefully going ahead with the discussion, as things have not been finalised yet.
Enrique will be expected to perform primarily in the Champions League, having already won the competition with Barcelona in the past. The closest the Parisians have come to European glory is in 2020, when they reached the finals. However, they were defeated 1-0 by Bayern Munich, who claimed the sextuple that season under Hansi Flick.
Luis Enrique PSG manager news: Enrique to be appointed after Nagelsmann talks collapse
Former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann was in talks with the club to join them as their new head coach. But, the two parties were unable to reach an agreement over the details. As a result, the talks fell through and he remains without a job in spite of being considered by several top clubs across Europe.
Paris are undergoing an interesting summer so far. They have parted ways with Lionel Messi, as well as Sergio Ramos. There is a chance that Neymar could leave the club as well, while the future of Kylian Mbappe remains uncertain after it was revealed that he will not extend his contract until 2025.
They have already secured the arrival of Marco Asensio from Real Madrid on a free transfer, as well as Manuel Ugarte from Sporting CP. The club is also in talks with Benfica for Cher Ndour, and is interested in signing Lucas Hernandez from Bayern Munich to replace Sergio Ramos. Attacking midfielder Kang-in Lee of Mallorca is also on the club’s radar, and a total agreement is close to being reached to bolster the squad ahead of the coming season.
As a result, we could see a totally new style of play from PSG this season, contrary to what we have seen for the last few seasons.
