Apple Vision Pro is an impressive gadget but the price tag will keep most of the buyers away

Analysts praised the Apple Vision Pro on Tuesday for its remarkable technology, but warned that the $3,499 augmented reality headset will not be widely used for several years.

The item, which received a chilly welcome from investors, was the company’s first new product line since the release of the Apple Watch nearly a decade ago. While the Apple Vision Pro grabbed centre stage at WWDC 2023, Wedbush analysts believe there is a deeper plan that involves developing a new App Store around this product and that ‘Apple is playing chess while others are playing checkers.’ As a result, there will be a plethora of apps catering to hundreds of thousands of consumers.

Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook stated that it might herald the arrival of “spatial computing,” in which digital material merges with the physical world, similar to how the iPhone altered the mobile world.

Analysts believe that Apple Vision Pro will take some time to materialise because the hefty price tag will likely deter most purchasers and the product has no clear application other than entertainment in a still young augmented reality (AR) market.

Some analysts have also warned that cheaper AR options from market leader Meta Platforms could be an impediment, as the Meta Quest 2 costs $299 and its successor, Meta Quest 3, costs $499.

The uncertainty surrounding Vision Pro sales has also resulted in a wide variety of projections regarding the device’s estimated shipments once it goes on sale next year.KGI Securities analyst Christine Wang estimated 200,000 shipments in the first year, while Credit Suisse predicted Apple will ship more than 1 million units within the same period.
