Apple will provide a dedicated hands-on of its new AR/VR headset during WWDC 2023

Following its introduction at WWDC next week, Apple has built a dedicated hands-on space inside Apple Park to provide press with hands-on samples of the the company’s Reality Pro AR/VR headset. According to Gurman, the cupertino giant intends to show off the headgear to “some attendees and media” on June 5, as well as hold subsequent demos throughout the summer. The headset will most likely be available at the end of the year or in early 2024.

Although the headset has been dubbed Apple Reality Pro in the past, the ultimate marketing name is unknown. The iPhone maker has also registered the names “Reality One” and “XR Pro” as trademarks.

Apple has built a large structure on the Apple Park campus to provide controlled hands-on demos of the device to some attendees and media at the conference. The company has set up an area at the basketball courts near its employee fitness center. Apple is also planning future demos through the summer. When it shows off the device, it’s planning to focus on immersive FaceTime in VR, Apple TV+ content and gaming.

One of the product’s projected standout features is an enhanced FaceTime experience, in which headset wearers will be able to have one-on-one virtual conversations with near photo-realistic avatars rather than cartoony Memoji-esque figures. The idea is to make it appear as if people are engaged in the same location.

The headset will be unveiled for the first time during the WWDC keynote on Monday, June 5. Other announcements will include new iOS 17 features, an improved UI for its new Watch with watchOS 10, the introduction of the 15-inch MacBook Air, and more.
