The Argentina legend Lionel Messi has secured another record in Europe’s top five leagues, to his name after he scored in PSG’s Ligue 1 clash with Strasbourg on Saturday. Messi registered his 496th league goal of his career, overtaking the number put up by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Messi’s incredible goal
Danilo Pereira lofted the ball, which was received by Kylian Mbappe, who eventually picked out the run of Lionel Messi and gave the ball to him, and the GOAT eventually finished off in style.
Earlier, Messi managed to equal the record of the Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo record when he scored against title rivals Lens last month; however, Messi waited a while to move in front of his Portuguese rival in part due to serving a club suspension for traveling to Saudi Arabia on a training day. He got back this weekend, though and he ends it as a two-time champion of France and the greatest scorer this continent has seen.
Messi on competing directly with Ronaldo for the record
Lionel Messi when competing directly with Ronaldo for the record back in 2020, stated that he thinks less about scoring goals. Obviously, he likes scoring goals, and if he has a chance, he will take it, but every time when he goes to the pitch, he is less focused on scoring goals and more focused on the game. He also stated that he is never obsessed with goals.
On the other hand, Lionel Messi is likely to return to Barcelona; however, that hasn’t been official yet as he has some other lucrative offers too. It is to be seen if he goes to any other club or decides to stay where he is.
