To a great disappointment of millions of cricket fans, the IPL Final between GT and CSK couldn’t be played on Sunday due to heavy rain. The match was called off without a single ball being played. It’s the first time in IPL history that the final showdown has to be postponed due to rain.
IPL Final 2023: reserve day on Monday
Though dejected on Sunday night, fans would be happy to know that there’s a reserve day for the game to be played. It will take place on Monday, at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
The aim will be for a full over game. In case that’s not possible again due to rain, a five-over match would still be open. If that possibility is ruled out too, there’ll be a super over to decide the champions. In case that couldn’t be fulfilled either, Gujarat Titans will be declared the winner of the present IPL season as they finished first in the group stage.
Harsha Bhogle, shared a tweet about the same.
“Hopefully, full game tomorrow. In the unlikely situation that we can’t even a 5 overs a side game, there will be a super over. If even that is not possible, the team that finished higher at the end of the league stage is declared the winner.”
Twitter divided in opinion
Following the tweet, the tweeter has been divided into opinions. According to some, it’s best to declare the Qualifier 1 winner the champion, as that team reached the finals first. While, some are saying that a shared championship would be justified in case there’s no game.
However, the decision from the authorities is final. In case there’s no game due to rain, the defending champions will be declared the winners.
Fans will be praying for a full game now as that would bring out a more justified result. Will it be Hardik Pandya’s Titans who will lift their second consecutive trophy? Or, will Dhoni lead CSK to their fifth championship? Stay tuned to find out.
