During the PlayStation Showcase livestream, Sony finally acknowledged its work on a new handheld PlayStation gadget, but it may not be what players expected. With all of the major games now in development for the PlayStation, nobody expected to see Sony’s newest handheld device, the existence of which was initially revealed in April.

According to sources, this device, initially dubbed Q Lite, isn’t intended to compete with dedicated portable gaming systems like the Steam Deck and the other competitors that have sprung up in its wake. It was instead said to be a PlayStation Remote Play gadget focused on streaming games.

The new PlayStation portable gadget was finally presented in full near the end of the PlayStation Showcase 2023 event, and it appears that many rumours regarding it being stream-only have been true.

Jim Ryan himself presented the technology, which is now known as “Project Q.” He claimed that Project Q will only allow gamers to stream games from their PlayStation 5 via Remote Play, and that any games played on it must be loaded on their PS5. Project Q, on the other hand, will include all of the buttons from the PS5’s DualSense controller, as well as an 8-inch HD display screen.

During today’s PlayStation Showcase broadcast, Jim Ryan presented the first pair of official PlayStation-branded gaming earphones, in addition to Project Q. These Bluetooth earphones can connect to PS5 consoles, PCs, and even smartphones. According to Ryan, the earbuds will deliver lossless audio with reduced latency, resulting in high sound quality when gaming.
