Valencia have been hit with a five-match ban for the south stand of their home ground for racist abuse against Vinicius Jr. The match was halted for ten minutes as the player pointed to the fans who were chanting racist slurs at him, to alert the referee.

However, it led to an altercation between the two teams and the winger was sent off. The RFEF overturned Vinicius’ red card, but he was unavailable for their game against Rayo Vallecano due to injury. Valencia have also been hit with a €45,000 fan for the behaviour of their home crowd. Valencia have disagreed with the sanctions placed on them and are planning to appeal the decision.

“It is considered proven that there were racist shouts at Vinicius during the aforementioned match. A financial penalty of 45,000 euros is imposed on Valencia,” the Competition Committee of the RFEF said in a statement.

Seven people were detained in the city over the racist abuse against the Brazilian. In last night’s match against Rayo Vallecano, the Santiago Bernabeu crowd revealed a banner protesting against racism. The Real Madrid players wore number 20 on their backs before the game to honour their teammate.

Moreover, the crowd also applauded Vini in the 20th minute. He was shown in the stands showing his appreciation for the display.
