Tuesday night was special for Dhoni fans as CSK made their way yet again to the finals, set to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, this Sunday.
They defeated Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 to emerge as the first finalists of the season.
CSK beat GT by 15 runs: and make their way to the finals
Things were geared up in Chennai to host Qualifier 1 between the defending champions GT and MS Dhoni’s CSK. Winning the toss, Hardik Pandya decided to send the men in yellow to bat first, and they did a pretty good job putting up 172 runs on board.
It was a fair batting display from Chennai, with Ruturaj Gaikwad scoring the highest for the team, i.e., a 44-ball 60. Both Shami and Mohit Sharma picked up two wickets each to restrict them to a below-180 score.
GT fell short by 15 runs
Coming to chase the run, GT didn’t have the superb of starts but a fair one. Except for a 38-ball 42 by Shubman Gill, the batters weren’t able to put up a great show.
During the concluding phase of the inning, Rashid Khan played an outstanding cameo of a 16-ball 32 including two sixes and three boundaries. However, that was not enough to help Gujarat pass the winning mark, as Khan didn’t receive much support.
Defeating them by 15 runs, CSK made their way to the finals. LSG will meet Mumbai in the Eliminator on Wednesday, and the winner of it will play GT on Friday to decide the second finalist of the season.
Will IPL get a new winner this season? Or, there might be a repetition. Lots of actions coming up this week. Stay tuned!
