Manchester City transfer news: Latest updates about the signings ahead of the 2023-24 season

Manchester City have progressed to the finals of the 22/23 Champions League by defeating Real Madrid 4-0 in the second leg of their semi-final tie. Bernardo Silva’s first half brace allowed City to have a huge advantage, which saw them dominate the game.

They will face Inter Milan in the finals, in what will be their second ever appearance this late in the competition. The last time they made it to the finals was in 2021, when they were defeated by Chelsea. But this season poses an entirely different situation.

Thibaut Courtois was forced into making two brilliant saves early on in the game to deny Erling Haaland from point blank range. The Norwegian was denied once again in the second half, who was played in brilliantly by Ilkay Gundogan, with a backheel in the box.

Real Madrid had a couple of close opportunities, courtesy of Toni Kroos and David Alaba. Both their long range efforts, however, hit the bar, and were covered by Ederson. Eder Militao conceded an own goal from a free-kick situation to make it 3-0 for his side, after a night to forget for Real defensively.

Julian Alvarez made it 4-0 with what seemed to be his first touch after coming off the bench, late in the game. The Argentine produced a composed finish to put the match to bed and seal passage into the finals.

After tearing apart the biggest team in the Champions League, Manchester City finally look set to win their first ever Champions League title. In addition, they are also likely to complete the treble, now being in control of the Premier League title race, alongside the FA Cup final.
