The long-rumored AR/VR headset project from Apple is set to make its debut at WWDC in June, according to The Wall Street Journal. This aligns with earlier reports from Bloomberg and The Information, adding more weight to the speculation. The report indicates that a significant portion of the conference will focus on software development for the headset, signaling Apple’s commitment to the technology.

However, due to manufacturing delays, mass production of the headset is not expected to commence until September. Apple is reportedly aware of potential production issues but has not disclosed specific details.

As for the headset itself, it is anticipated to feature an internal screen for virtual reality, complemented by outward-facing cameras that provide users with augmented reality overlays of the real world. This exciting blend of VR and AR, often referred to as “mixed reality,” is expected to offer a unique and immersive experience.

The report also confirms earlier claims that the headset will be “experimental” and diverge from Apple’s conventional product lineup.

It is projected to carry a price tag of around $3,000 and come with an external battery pack that can be conveniently worn on the waist. The headset is likely to find applications in various areas, including FaceTime, Apple Fitness+, and gaming.

According to sources cited in the report, the company’s new headset is poised to outperform competing devices, boasting superior levels of performance and immersion. Compared to Meta’s Quest Pro headset, in particular, Apple’s offering is expected to surpass expectations. With the WWDC keynote just around the corner on June 5, anticipation is building as consumers eagerly await the public unveiling of Apple’s highly anticipated headset.
