The AMD Ryzen 7040U low-power series, which was introduced earlier this week, is only found in a select few handheld gaming consoles, including the A1 Pro. The Zen4 and RDNA3 architectures serve as the foundation for this new Ryzen processor, code-named “Phoenix,” which brings AMD’s most recent innovations to the mobile market.

The business has made public its benchmarks using the integrated RDNA3 graphics. The AMD Radeon 780M has 12 compute units and a GPU clock that can reach 2.7 GHz. This is an improvement over Radeon 680M (RDNA2), which had the same number of cores but a slower clock speed.

In artificial 3DMark tests, the AMD Radeom 780M reportedly performs 28% to 31% faster than the last-generation iGPU.

More importantly, it performs similarly to GeForce RTX 2050 mobile graphics (3% slower to 26% faster) and GTX 1650 Ti Max-Q (3% to 7% slower). The latter performs poorly in TimeSpy because it has a 64-bit memory bus. Please be aware that the 3DMark benchmark colours are mismatched.

The AMD Phoenix APU outperforms the Ryzen 9 6900HX from the previous generation in terms of CPU performance (at 45W). Remembering that the Phoenix U-series operates within a 15 to 30-watt power range, the new CPU is still faster even at its maximum TDP.

In some AAA titles, the company also provided its predictions for gaming performance. The resolution and image quality will vary depending on the game, but the integrated GPU provides at least 800p resolution and 45–60 frames per second in all games (the console has a 1200p screen). Gamers still have a variety of options, including the use of resolution upscaling technologies or a lower refresh rate or frame limit.

The AMD Ryzen 7 7840U is undoubtedly a potent gaming processor, but it may be difficult to sell consumers on the AOKZOE’s A1 console. Its $799 suggested retail price is only a launch price for the duration of the crowdfunding campaign.

Just hours before launch, the company decided in a last-ditch effort to set itself apart from rivals like ASUS ROG Ally, to increase the default memory configuration from 16GB to 32GB. We can only hope that the reports about Ally’s $699 price are accurate. A1 Pro will then only appeal to a very small group of people.
