Caglar Soyuncu is all set to join Atletico Madrid on a free transfer in the summer. The Leicester City defender is out of a contract at the end of the season, and will now be moving to Spain.
As revealed by Fabrizio Romano, he has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Rojiblancos. The contract will be valid until June 2027, as was agreed around the January transfer window.
Caglar Soyuncu to join Atletico Madrid for free in the summer
Soyuncu was once one of the first names in the backline for Leicester City. But over the last year, he has fallen out of favour at the club. The Turkiye international has had to endure a spell on the sidelines due to poor form, and has played a limited role this season.
Under a defensive-minded manager like Diego Simeone, who has a unique way of bringing out the aggression out of his players, it will be interesting to see what becomes of Caglar Soyuncu. The centre-back is known for being overly aggressive at times and with El Cholo overseeing him, he could rediscover himself in La Liga next season.
Soyuncu isn’t the only player who could leave the Foxes for free this summer. Youri Tielemans is also out of a contract, and is likely to walk away on a free transfer. But, he hasn’t agreed a deal with any club yet.
