Intel: New XeSS drivers pushing Cyberpunk 2077 performance by over 70%

Intel seems to be delighted by the new software and driver updates that have increased Arc graphics performance in Cyberpunk 2077 by over 70%. The chipmaker’s drivers have improved over the past few months, but CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 has gained an edge because it is the first game to use the code to support Intel XeSS 1.1 technology.

Before the most recent updates, Intel’s internal tests revealed that a modest Arc A750 and a Core i9-13900K combo managed to run Cyberpunk 2077 at 39 frames per second. The same 1080p Ultra and RT Medium thrills can now be experienced by gamers at an average frame rate of 67 fps thanks to the most recent drivers and XeSS support.

Intel XeSS is the company’s AI-upscaling technology, in case you haven’t been paying attention in the back, and it aims to directly compete with Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR2.

It utilises GPUs from other vendors, unlike DLSS, but it does so using a different code path. In reality, it is made to take advantage of Intel’s Arc XMX cores to speed up processing, so even in cases where other options are available, it is frequently the best option for Arc users.

In the graphics options of compatible games, players have a choice of four XeSS modes: Ultra Quality, Quality, Balanced, and Performance. The latter achieves the highest frame rate enhancements (4x upscaling), but because it prioritises quick performance, pixel-perfectionists will more readily detect image fidelity flaws.

Based on tests with XeSS Performance mode enabled, Intel’s most recent blog boasts about the performance improvement for Cyberpunk 2077. Positively speaking, it’s encouraging to see that RT is activated as the Arc A750 passes “above that sweet 60 fps marker.”
