AMD Ryzen 8000 APU details leaked online showing off Fire Range, Strix Point and Howk Point APUs

Moore’s Law is Dead has discovered AMD’s next-generation Zen 5 and Zen 4 powered Ryzen 8000 Fire Range, Strix Point, and Hawk Point APUs with RDNA 3.5 GPU cores. According to the most recent information from Moore’s Law is Dead, AMD will release several next-gen Ryzen 8000 APU families in 2024. This information allegedly comes from an internal roadmap leak. Along with a few Zen 4 updates that are also mentioned in the leak, it appears that Zen 5 will be the main focus for the coming year.

AMD will likely discuss its upcoming Ryzen 8000 APU families for laptops at CES 2024.

Hawk Point APUs are anticipated to be the first family to hit store shelves, followed by Strix Point and Fire Range APUs. The desktop platform will debut a brand-new Zen 5 while Zen 5 and Zen 4 will coexist in the coming year.

The AMD Hawk Point APUs will be the first to be available, and according to rumours, they appear to be an update of the current Phoenix chips using a slightly modified 4nm design. The updated RDNA 3.5 GPU and XDNA cores on top of the same Zen 4 cores keep things interesting.

AMD can make the laptops easily accessible to customers because this family primarily represents a refresh. While we’re talking about the Phoenix refresh, the original Phoenix APUs haven’t yet gone on sale; however, the Ryzen 7040 series is anticipated to do so later this month. The upgrade most likely belongs to the AMD Ryzen 8040 series.

AMD’s Ryzen 7045 “Dragon Range” APUs for enthusiasts will be replaced by the Fire Range APUs, which are anticipated to have up to 16 Zen 5 cores. The new chips will be offering a significant performance boost overall thanks to the upgraded architecture and offer even higher efficiency, even though the number of cores remains the same as the current generation offerings.

According to the rumour, AMD’s Strix Point APUs will be offered in two variations: chiplet and monolithic die. Both will make use of the RDNA 3.5 GPUs and the 4nm Zen 5 CPU. These APUs will most likely be released as part of the Ryzen 8000 APU lineup as the Ryzen 8050 series.

Although AMD will be increasing the core counts from 8 to 12 for the monolithic designs, the AMD Strix Point Monolithic design will feel exactly like a conventional APU design for the first time in many years. By combining 4 standard Zen 5 cores with 8 Zen 5C cores in a 4+8 (4/8 + 8/16) package to equal a total of 24 threads, a hybrid design approach will enable this. Early Cinebench R23 benchmarks claim that the APU is 35% faster than Phoenix at the same power (50W) and will have 24.0 MB of L3 unified cache across all Zen 5/5C cores.

Strix Point Mono will give you 16 RDNA 3.5 CUs in 8 WGPs for the GPU side. Although there isn’t an onboard Infinity Cache yet, performance is reportedly comparable to an RTX 3050 Max-Q GPU. A 128-bit LPDDR5X memory controller and up to 20 TOPs of AI Engine compute are also included.

The more intriguing of the two is the AMD Strix Point Chiplet, which is marketed as a “Halo” product. With up to 16 Zen 5 cores and 32 threads and 25% faster performance than a 16-core Dragon Range chip at the same power (90W), this will be the first APU with a chiplet design for consumers. Additionally, it will be available in versions with 12, 8, and 6 cores, 64 MB of L3 cache (32 MB per chiplet), and excellent efficiency improvements.
