Olivier Giroud has renewed his contract with AC Milan until 2024, as officially announced by the club on their social media accounts. The news comes right following their progression into the semi-finals of the Champions League, with Giroud scoring the decisive goal in the second leg against Napoli even though it ended in a draw.
The Frenchman has been a talismanic figure for his side this season, scoring five goals in the Champions League and eight in the league. He has been the perfect forward in the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and will have a huge role to play in the semi-final as well.
Olivier Giroud renews contract with AC Milan
The new deal was agreed between the two parties verbally for weeks, and it has now been formally revealed. Giroud has accepted a salary worth €3.5 million for the coming season.
The veteran striker signed for Milan in the summer of 2021, and has scored 27 goals for them in 76 appearances across all competitions. He played a very important part for the club last season as well, when they won the Serie A title for the first time in 11 years. And this season, he could help them progress to the finals if he can deliver in the last four.
After renewing the contract of Olivier Giroud, the attention of the board now turns to Rafael Leao. The Portugal international was named the man of the match in the second leg and is arguably the most valuable player in their team. Leao is keen on staying, but a few details need to be ironed out between the two parties before a total agreement is reached.
