Real Madrid have qualified for their 11th Champions League semifinal in the last 13 seasons by defeating Chelsea 4-0 on aggregate. The second leg at Stamford Bridge ended 2-0 in the favour of the visitors, with the Blues failing to score once again.

There was frustration right from the time the teams were announced, with Frank Lampard opting to field four central midfielders and only one misfiring attacker in Kai Havertz. However, the first half performance was merely promising from the hosts.

Rodrygo scored both goals for Los Blancos at Stamford Bridge, dumping Chelsea out of the competition. Carlo Ancelotti named an unchanged side from the first leg, and Madrid played rapid and smooth attacking football in possession, while being deadly on the counter as well.

There was little hope for Chelsea given their dismal form throughout the season. And Madrid never quite looked beaten in spite of the close chances that fell to the Londoners.

Real Madrid now have a semi-final meeting against either Bayern Munich or Manchester City for a spot in a final. In either case, it promises to be a game of massive proportions. And given the form that Ancelotti’s side have shown in Europe this season, and last year, they are still one of the favourites to win the Champions League.
