Margot Robbie has already become a popular face for playing the role of Harley Quinn.
Presently, the actor will portray a Barbie character in her upcoming film. The filming, which included exterior shots in the streets of Florida, has garnered significant attention. However, it has been some time since we have been inundated with news about Barbie, making it an opportune moment to watch the movie’s initial trailer and explore how it will translate to the big screen.
The widely known song “Barbie Girl” by Aqua will not be included in the movie. However, it is clear that there are notable changes in the Barbie world, which acclaimed director Greta Gerwig has hinted at in earlier interviews. It is worth acknowledging that the live-action film is being released more than six decades after the creation of the iconic doll.
Barbie: Plot
In this new trailer, we will see the Barbies and Kens who are greeting each other for a fantastic day at the beach. We will see quite a dynamic between Gosling and Simu Liu’s Kens. The new trailer had not featured any version of Aqua’s hit pop song “Barbie Girl”. We will see The Beach Boys ‘Fun Fun Fun’ that will provide the exact energy.
The new trailer doesn’t expose much, as it mostly unveils Robbie that’s standing on a beach dressed in her vintage Barbie finest. It is namely the black and white striped swimsuit and 1950s ponytail found on the original incarnation of the doll.
On scoring to Richard Strauss’ ‘Also Sprach Zarathustra’, as the audiences are going to recognize from 2001: A Space Odyssey, the trailer concludes on a much more important note. There are some quick clips showing the star-studded cast of the film living their fantastic, plastic lives in a hot-pink Barbie world.
Barbie is written by director Gerwig along with Noah Baumbach, which is another exposing element of the tone and setting of this new movie. Both Gerwig and Baumbach are known for depicting some harsh realities of life – but often with humor at the core, so their take on the world-famous character makes it all the more interesting. Will Ferrell, who plays the CEO of Mattel, suggested in an interview that the movie will be a satire on patriarchy, as well as a critique of social and beauty standards imposed on women.
