NXP Semiconductors reportedly urging its partners to invest in India

NXP Semiconductors has reportedly urged its international chip maker partners, including TSMC and GlobalFoundries, to establish a base in India. Kurt Sievers, president and chief executive officer of the Dutch semiconductor designer and manufacturer, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the capital while he was there. They discussed NXP Semiconductors commitment to being a significant participant in the Indian semiconductor ecosystem.

According to Sievers, India has good infrastructure and educational standards, but it also excels on the geopolitical front as semiconductor manufacturing locations are increasingly chosen from a political standpoint. He claimed that India was a desirable option in that regard.

According to Sievers, the manufacturing and design of electronics in India has the potential to play a much more significant role in the global electronics value chain.

NXP Semiconductors wants to rapidly increase and broaden its R&D capabilities in the nation.

NXP Semiconductors currently employs about 4,000 engineers across facilities in Noida, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) awarded Tata Consultancy Services the electronic passport contract last year. Additionally, Sievers stated that in order to improve innovation and give Indian startups a global platform, the company would collaborate closely with them.

During his meeting with the prime minister, Sievers reaffirmed his commitment to helping India develop a robust semiconductor ecosystem, particularly on the design and software fronts.

He also mentioned industrial automation and healthcare as the two emerging industries that held promise for the company, in addition to the automotive sector, where NXP is heavily involved.
