AMD EPYC Embedded 9004 Series CPUs are here with 96 cores

AMD has introduced a new Epyc processor line for embedded applications. The AMD Epyc Embedded 9004 Series includes ten models with core counts ranging from 16 to 96 and thermal design power (TDP) profiles ranging from 200 to 400 watts. The base clock speeds range from 2.4GHz to 3.25GHz, with select models reaching up to 4.15GHz. All are built on the Zen 4 5nm process.

AMD’s new embedded solutions support non-volatile dual in-line memory modules (NVDIMMs), a hybrid type of memory that combines volatile DRAM and non-volatile flash memory, as well as non-transparent bridging (NTB), which increases system reliability by allowing data to be exchanged between two redundant CPUs.

The Epyc Embedded 9004 also has dual serial peripheral interface ports, allowing off-chip ROMs to be used for secure boot.

AMD plans to keep its new processors on the market for up to seven years to ensure a long support cycle. Two of the company’s largest customers are already developing products that use AMD’s new hardware. The new SIMATIC IPC RS-828A server from Siemens will be powered by Epyc Embedded 9004 Series processors, and Advantech’s ASMB-831 server board will also support the Socket SP5 solution.

Advantech’s board, according to AMD, is ideal for image analysis in a variety of fields, including smart city applications and security surveillance. AMD’s Epyc Embedded 9004 Series chips are now sampling to OEM and ODM customers, with production shipments beginning in April. AMD also stated that evaluation kits with a reference board, development tool kits, and complete documentation are available to qualified customers.
