PassMark has tested a 12-Core AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX CPU, which will be part of the high-end Dragon Range line of laptop CPUs. This CPU is a high-end Dragon Range SKU with the Zen 4 architecture, bringing a high core count and larger cache to the mobile platform. The chips are aimed at the enthusiast market, so their TDPs range from 45W to 75W. This chip has now been tested in the PassMark benchmark, and the results are astounding.
The AMD 7845HX CPU has 12 cores and 24 threads in terms of specifications. The CPU has a base clock of 3.0 GHz and a boost clock of 5.2 GHz, with a total cache of 76 MB (64 L3 + 12 L2). The CPU has a TDP of 55-75W+ and an integrated Radeon 610M GPU with two compute units clocked at 2.2 GHz. On the laptop platform, the CPU has a fully unlocked design and supports EXPO memory profiles.

This is up to 90% faster than the fastest Rembrandt CPU, the Ryzen 9 6900HX, and up to 31% faster than the Core i9-12900HX, which is particularly impressive given that the Alder Lake-HX chip has 16 cores and 24 threads. When compared to desktop components, the Dragon Range CPU performs on par with or within 90% of the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X and Intel Core i7-13700K CPUs.
AMD’s Dragon Range CPUs, including the 7845HX, will compete with Intel’s 13th Generation Raptor Lake-HX CPUs. Raptor Lake-HX CPUs will have much higher core counts and cache than Dragon Range CPUs, so they may have an advantage there, but they will also consume more power, whereas Zen 4 has proven to be more efficient at lower power consumption.
