Xbox CEO Phil Spencer admitted that the console would be “light on games” by 2022. For comparison, Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios released only five new games this year, with only one being a first-party title.
Microsoft kicked off 2023 with a digital event called “Developer Direct,” during which they showcased gameplay from major upcoming games such as Redfall, Minecraft Legends, and Forza Motorsport. The biggest surprise of the show, however, was the simultaneous announcement and release of Tango Gamework’s Hi-Fi Rush.
Phil Spencer also stated that the Microsoft Xbox team will do better in 2023
“Redfall and Starfield are really important games,” Spencer admitted. Redfall, developed by Arkane Austin, and Starfield, developed by Bethesda Game Studios, are two major titles that have been delayed until 2022.
Spencer also shed some light on the ongoing acquisition saga between Activision and Blizzard. Microsoft announced the acquisition in January of last year but has since faced increasingly difficult legal battles to complete the transaction.
