Tottenham Hotspur women have signed Bethany England in a record deal worth £250,000. The deal beats the previous record set by Chelsea themselves to sign Lauren James from Manchester United in 2021, at £200,000.
The new signing has put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half year deal with the Lilywhites. And she ends a seven year spell with the Blues, signing for one of their biggest rivals in a rather heartbreaking goodbye for the faithful.
Bethany England signs for Tottenham Hotspur women
One of the main reasons behind the switch across London is due to the lack of playing time. She has only played six times this season, but is considered a legend for the club – scoring 73 goals in 163 appearances for Chelsea.
Spurs are in a difficult position in the WSL right now, having been on a four-match losing streak. They have scored eleven goals in nine games, but eight of them were in the same game.
She was a part of the England squad that won the Euros this summer, and has earned 21 caps for the Three Lionesses, scoring 11 goals during that time.
Spurs will hence be hopeful that the arrival of a proven goalscorer like Bethany England will help their form in front of goal.
