Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant is set to go under double surgery after he met with a car accident a few days ago. He will be out of the action for about nine months. BCCI has airlifted Rishabh Pant to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Hospital this Wednesday. He will be going to London for the surgery but the date isn’t decided. He has to recover from the superficial wounds and under Dinshaw Pardiwala’s observation his ligament treatment will continue.

“Rishabh was brought to Mumbai to avoid too much attention on him. He needs rest and it was not possible in Dehradun. Here, he will be in high security and only family members can meet him. As he recovers from the wounds, the doctors will decide the course of action for his ligament injury”– a senior BCCI official said

Some reports suggested that he will be treated in Mumbai under Dr. Pardiwala and the board doesn’t want to take any risk since the ICC World Cup is in October.

“Once the doctors seem he is fit to travel, he will be sent to London for surgery. We still don’t know how long it will take him to recover. Once the swelling subsides, Dr Pardiwala and his team will determine the treatment path. As things stand, Rishabh will need surgery on both his knee and ankle. That will anyway keep him out for close to nine months,” the official told

Pant has undergone an MRI in Dehradun on his brain and spinal cord but due to swelling and pain and the doctors couldn’t do an MRI on his knee and ankle. The intensity of the injury will be known only when the swelling reduces a bit. As per the preliminary tests, he will be needing an injury for both the ankle and knee. The double surgery can take longer and once the damage is determined, the doctors can determine the recovery time.

He will be missing the following series:

  • India vs New Zealand (3 ODIs, 3 T20s) – January-February
  • India vs Australia (4 Tests & 3 ODIs) – February-March
  • IPL 2023– (April-May)
  • World Test Championship Final (If India qualifies) – June
  • India Tour of West Indies– (July)

The BCCI preferred Pant to get treated by the board’s impaneled medical team. His expenses are covered by the medical insurance he has however, the cost of the air ambulance was given by the board.
