Luka Modric is a living legend! Even at the age of 37 years, he is performing at the highest level. He won the Champions League and La Liga with Real Madrid this year, being an important part of the team. Modric has now also captained his country, Croatia to another successful World Cup campaign as they finish third this time, after finishing as runners-up in 2018.
To get things into context, Luka Modric left Tottenham Hotspurs and signed for Real Madrid when he was 27 years old and by that time, he didn’t have won anything significant. Fast forward to 10 years, and he is now among the best midfielders of all time, having won 5 Champions League titles with Real Madrid and captaining Croatia to a second and third-place finish in the last two editions of the World Cup. Modric is also the footballer to break the Ronaldo-Messi duopoly over the Ballon d’Or trophy as he won the highest individual honour in 2018.
Luka Modric isn’t planning to retire anytime soon!
Luka Modric is truly a midfield magician, who brings joy to every football fan. His command of the midfield is second to none and doing it in his late 30s at the highest level requires insane longevity and passion for the game. The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 was his last World cup but he isn’t retiring anytime soon. This news will surely bring a smile to the face of every football fan as we can enjoy seeing the midfield maestro performing his art in the middle of the park for some more time.
Luka Modric said after finishing third in the World Cup 2022: “It may be my last game in a World Cup, but I can’t say anything. But of course, I am very happy with my career for Croatia. Winning two medals is very important. My dream was to win the cup, it didn’t happen, but I am very happy.”
“About my future? I don’t know if I will be in Germany, I have to go step by step. I am enjoying the national team, I feel happy. I still think I can perform on a high level and I want to continue until the Nations League, then after there will be more time to think about the Euros. Now it is step by step by step and continue until least the Nations League and after we will see.”
Luka Modric further said: “We showed that Croatia has a great team, with a very good future ahead and we must continue on that path. In the future we will see what happens. I want to continue until the Nations League and then we’ll see what happens.”
“You could see how we celebrated on the pitch. It means a lot to win two medals in two World Cups, it’s something very important and very big for Croatia. You can no longer talk about Croatia as a team that does something every 20 years.
“I think with the last World Cup and this one we have put Croatia on the map of great teams and we are very happy. We wanted to be in the final, and even though we couldn’t, we go home as winners, which is also very important.”
