Chelsea are on the verge of signing a new striker for January – Datro Fofana from Molde in Norway. The Blues have lost Armando Broja for the rest of the season at the very least, after the Cobham graduate suffered an ACL injury in their friendly against Aston Villa.
While Fofana was expected to be a more long-term prospect, being 19 years old, he could be integrated into the first team since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kai Havertz are the only other options.
Chelsea close to finalising transfer for Datro Fofana
There is a total agreement with Molde for the young striker, in a deal worth €10 million+. He has been in fine form across all competitions, scoring 21 goals & providing 7 assists across the Norwegian league and the Europa Conference League.
On the back of Datro Fofana’s performances domestically and across Europe, he could break into the first team under Graham Potter. With the agreement all set to be agreed upon, the final details could be completed in the coming days.
Interestingly, the notion of an Ivorian striker playing for Chelsea always brings to mind one name – Didier Drogba. While it will be a little bit too much to compare a player that hasn’t been signed yet to a club legend, the similarities will surely be pointed out by fans.
