  1. England scored 506 runs on the first day of a Test, breaking Australia’s previous mark of 494 runs against South Africa in Sydney in 1912.
  2. For the first time ever, four batters made a century on the first day of a Test, contributing to England’s total were hundreds from Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Harry Brook.
  3. Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique of Pakistan both scored hundreds in their team’s 579-run reply, marking it the first time in 146 years of Test cricket that both teams’ openers reached triple digits in the first innings.
  4. The first time in Tests that two opening partnerships of 200 or more were made in the same game was when Haq and Shafique put up 225 for the first stand and Crawley and Duckett reached 233.
  5. The first innings total of 657 runs by England was its fifth-highest ever against Pakistan.
  6. Brook became just the fourth Test batter to hit six boundaries in a single over, joining West Indian duo Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan and Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya.
  7. England’s total of 398 runs in boundaries alone, which is the fifth-highest total by any side in a Test inning and the most ever by England, included 86 fours and nine sixes.
  8. Zahid Mahmood scored 235 runs, surpassing the 222 runs scored by Suraj Randiv of Sri Lanka against India in 2010.
