Mick Beale has returned to Rangers as the new head coach, after the sacking of Giovanni van Bronckhorst. The former QPR manager served as an assistant to Steven Gerrard during his time at the club, before joining the Championship club in his debut managerial stint.

The 42-year-old has signed a contract with the Scottish side until 2026, and has been officially confirmed by the club. He was sought after by Wolves some time ago, after they sacked Bruno Lage. But, while he stayed at QPR after rejecting them, he could not turn down a return to Rangers.

“It is fantastic to be back and to see everybody this morning, there are some new faces but some people that I know really well so it is great to see everyone,” Mick Beale said.

“I am hugely proud, it is a wonderful, wonderful football club, it is an institution. For everyone that works here it is a huge privilege, but to be the manager of this football club, that is extremely special. Some wonderful people have sat in this chair prior to me, and I am hugely proud to be the person sat here now.”

Rangers are out of Europe after losing all six Champions League games, and are nine points behind their Old Firm rivals, Celtic. Beale will take charge of the team for the first time against Hibernian on December 15.
