Morocco shocked Belgium in their World Cup group stage meeting with a 2-0 win over the Red Devils. The African side headed into the game having gone nine hours without a goal conceded. And they were able to extend their tally further with a clean sheet against Belgium.
Belgium, on the other hand, have lost their record of winning eight straight group stage games. And now, they will need a win in their final game of the group against Croatia to secure qualification to the last 16.
Belgium defeated by Morocco in the World Cup
Second half substitutions for Morocco helped tilt the odds in their favour. The first half saw Belgium have the majority of the ball, but they struggled to create very meaningful chances. And in the end, Morocco had less possession but earned all three points.
Roman Saiss scored the opener for Morocco, after Abdelhamid Sabiri produced an identical free-kick to Hakim Ziyech in the first half. This time, though, it wasn’t ruled out for offside.
Ziyech then provided the assist for Zakaria Aboukhlal to double their lead late in the game. Now, they have a great chance of progressing into the last 16 with a decent result against Canada in their final game.
